The Harbor Course's First Full Fall Back: What Wild Dunes Golfers Are Playing This Season

This is the first autumn the rebuilt Harbor Course has had to itself. The 2026 association calendar for Wild Dunes golf now runs through the Harbor. The Three Island Challenge comes to the Harbor on October 21, and the Couples Club Championship is played there on November 15. The Couples Member/Guest is split between the Harbor and the Links. A year ago the Harbor was closed. The course shut down for six months for a $9.5 million renovation and reopened on November 13, 2025. Tee times actually returned on October 26, so last fall's play came in a short stretch before the official reopening.

So this October is the first time the restored Harbor has carried a full fall schedule. The scheduling makes sense once you look at what was rebuilt.

The Greens Were Built to Take More Play

Jeff Minton, the resort's PGA of America Director of Golf, explained the scale of the greens work in a July 2026 resort feature. Every green on the Harbor was rebuilt from the ground up.

"We basically doubled the size of the putting surfaces from around 60,000 square feet total to well over 100,000. Golfers are amazed at the difference."

According to the same feature, the crew stripped away decades of green shrinkage to recover the original late-1980s contours. They replanted the surfaces in TifEagle Bermuda for a faster, truer roll, which also opened up more pin placements. More pin positions spread out the wear from heavy play, and the feature puts that load at 35,000 to 40,000 rounds a year. It says courses built in the 1980s were never designed for that volume, and that the old small, segmented tees wore down and became uneven. All the tee boxes were laser-leveled and enlarged. Minton says that means "there's always good turf to hit from" and gives staff far more room to adjust yardages.

Bigger greens, more hole locations and tees that can shift yardage are what a course needs to host a club championship and then a resort tee sheet the next morning. The irrigation system was also replaced, with wider coverage that includes patches that used to struggle in dry spells.

The work was a Fazio Design project. Golf Course Industry's September 2025 report credits Tom Fazio and Fazio associate Bryan Bowers, with Heritage Links Golf Course Construction as the builder, alongside the resort's agronomy team. The Post and Courier added that several bunkers were reshaped and moved to account for modern driving distances, and that multiple cart bridges were restored.

Holes 9, 10 and 11 Changed the Most

Minton says the three holes along the Intracoastal Waterway changed more than any others. Crews brought in roughly 15,000 cubic yards of material and raised those holes nearly five feet. They also moved the cart paths, widened the fairways and added strategic bunkering.

If you played the Harbor before 2025, this stretch is where you will notice the biggest difference. The fairways are wider, the bunkering is new, and the water views run along the whole stretch.

The Fall Calendar, Event by Event

The Wild runs Wild Dunes' amateur golf. It is the combined name for the Wild Dunes Men's and Ladies Golf Associations, and it organizes recurring tournaments, weekly events and social gatherings. Its 2026 schedule lists 26 events, with 18 completed and 8 still to play as of this writing. Here is what is left for October and November, combined from the men's and ladies' calendars:

Date Event Course
Oct. 8 Three Island Challenge, Seabrook leg Ocean Winds, 9:30 shotgun
Oct. 9 Twilight Golf Links
Oct. 12 and 14 WD Ladies Club Championship per LGA calendar
Oct. 21 Three Island Challenge, Wild Dunes leg Harbor, 9:30 shotgun
Oct. 23–25 Couples Member/Guest Links and Harbor
Nov. 15 Couples Club Championship Harbor, 11:00 tee times
Nov. 17 Three Island Challenge, Kiawah leg Turtle Point

The men's and ladies' calendars list the Couples Member/Guest differently. The MGA lists it as a two-day event starting October 24, and the LGA lists October 23 through 25. If you are building a weekend around it, check the dates with the association first.

The Three Island Challenge rotates through the three barrier-island resort communities southeast of Charleston. It opens at Seabrook's Ocean Winds, comes to the Harbor in the middle of the run, and finishes at Kiawah's Turtle Point. When the competition comes to Wild Dunes, it is played on the Harbor. For the first time since the rebuild, the visiting players will be on the new greens.

The Award Came From the People Who Play There

In March 2026, Wild Dunes was named in the GolfersVoice Awards, presented by the National Golf Foundation and Players 1st. The award was in the Course Conditions for Top Premium Courses category, and the scores come from golfer surveys. The award covered both courses. Minton gave the credit to superintendent Scott Ferguson and his team for "keeping both the Links and the newly renovated Harbor Course in tournament condition day-in and day-out."

Because the scores come from players' survey answers, the award reflects how the courses played for paying golfers in the months right after the rebuild. This fall's events will be the first time a full association season has been played on the restored course.

How Residents Get on the Course

Owning a home in Wild Dunes does not come with golf. The Wild Dunes Community Association says The Club is privately owned and run by the resort and is separate from the association. Owning property does not automatically give you access to the resort's fitness center or pools, and questions about The Club go to The Club directly. Your gate decal or barcode gets you through the community gate. It is not a golf membership.

That leaves three main ways to play:

  • Club membership. The Club's 2026 fee sheet lists Signature–Golf at a $50,000 initiation fee plus $700 a month, with fitness center access at $34 a month on top. The Young Executive option is for members 44 and under, based on the age of the elder spouse. It includes the same benefits, with 25% of the initiation due at signing, 25% at age 35 and 50% at age 45. Dues are 50% until 35 and 70% until 45. Racquets and Swim memberships are listed at a $10,000 initiation each, with monthly dues of $340 and $152. Members can play both 18-hole courses. The sheet has no publication date, so confirm current terms with The Club before planning around these figures.
  • Public tee times. The resort's golf page says either the Links or the Harbor is open each day for resort guests and public play. It does not publish a day-by-day fall rotation. On the live tee sheet, an 8:20 a.m. slot on October 5, 2026, was $182 on the Harbor and $190 on the Links. That is one morning's price, not a set rate. We found no separate published rate for Isle of Palms or Charleston-area residents.
  • Instruction. Private lessons are $125 an hour or $65 for 30 minutes. Small-group lessons are $150 an hour, and two specialty clinics are $125 per person. Bookings go through 843-886-2201.

The Wild's membership page does not list dues or eligibility, so contact the association directly about joining. Its schedule page also invites donations toward a Wild Signature Hole at the First Tee's new golf course in West Ashley, a project that extends the association's work beyond Isle of Palms.

November 13, One Year Later

The Harbor's first anniversary falls on November 13, 2026, one year after its 2025 grand reopening. As of early October, we found no public listing for an anniversary event. Two days later, the Couples Club Championship tees off on the Harbor at 11:00, on greens that now cover more than 100,000 square feet.

If you are weighing a Club membership alongside a Wild Dunes purchase, the costs need to be looked at together, because golf access is priced separately from the property itself. Charleston Beach Life has handled coastal transactions for more than 35 years and can lay those numbers out next to each other for a specific property. Schedule a Free Consultation, and Russ Knapp will walk through what owning in Wild Dunes includes and what it costs extra.
